Turn off the main Colombo Road one kilometre before Galle and just 400 metres from the beach is Gin Ganga House, standing on two acres of lush land surrounded by the Gin Ganga River and Mahamodera Lake on three sides. This luxury Sri Lankan villa was built some 15 years ago and brought its’ renowned Colombo architect several design awards. There are spectacular views from Mahamodera Watte. Gaze across the lake and watch the Kingfisher zoom past with his latest catch on the Sea Eagle soar to meet its prey. Stroll around the garden full of exotica fruits like Mango, Paw Paw, Banana, Avocado and more.

Stay silent as a one and a half metre water monitor saunters across the lawns in search of dinner and the lapwing screeches to protect its eggs. Just across a 20 foot bridge is Mahamodera Dupatha our small island in the Gin Ganga River, populated one of our two groups of Purple Faced Langar monkeys – a large and endangered ‘bear’ monkey endemic to Sri Lanka. The island house has sleeping accommodation, bathroom and lounge from those yearn to get away from it all and have a night in the jungle without even leaving Gin Ganga. Wherever you are in the garden there is a constant chorus of wild bird accompanied by our ever-increasing family of Palm Squirrels.

By now you will be feeling hot under the blazing Sri Lankan skies and just ready to plunge into our 15-metre infinity edge swimming pool. Look across its blue waters to the lake and lose yourself in a little piece of paradise. Have a cool drink brought to you at the pool bar then take lunch in our barbeque hut beside the river where you will unseen by the wealth of wildlife that abounds around you. And all this, just 3 minutes walk from a long sand beach.
